Anti-Spam

Email is one of the most valuable applications on the Internet. However, spam turns out to be an increasingly serious problem to email users. A number of anti-spam schemes have been proposed and deployed, but the problem has not yet been well addressed.

We put forward a practical anti-spam scheme using pre-challenges. Our scheme is a standalone solution, without the need of installing software or changing the configuration on the sender's side. It allows email senders to have no delay in reaching the receiver's mailbox, and prevents the denial of service attack when the origin of the email is forged. It also manages mailing list messages and error messages properly. A prototype system has been developed for potential commercialization. It also received TKK Award in 2006.
